I am pretty sure that nearly every percussionist or even lower brass players would have experienced this problem, which is losing count when counting hundreds of bars during orchestral playing. Well, this blog is going to give out some tips for these players
- First and the most important is, be prepared. If you are unprepared before the rehearsal, you will most likely be miscounted the entrance of that one note after long rest. Drop down some cues on the part or go over the piece again and again in the brain, at the end of the day, the chances of miscounting or loss-count will be lesser
- For rehearsals, you can also prepare a full score besides you. Technology nowadays helps these players to access to full score in a more convenient way, you can simply download the scores in your I-Pad. Then, you will never get lost in the long rest.
- Go find your reliable friends when you are lost counting. Although you should always be well prepared, chances are that you might also be getting lost. Therefore, It is not a shame to seek help from your friends as missing an entrance is a much bigger problem.
Hope you will find these tips help!
